I don't think it was the fact that you were alone. I have had bad service there on a number of occasions - whether by myself or with my family. Strangely, I have found that the service is inversely related to how busy they are at the time of your visit. If you got in on a Friday night, and they are swamped, you typically get good service. Go on a slow evening, and it can be horrendous.

If I receive bad service, I always let the cashier know. They always ask if everything was ok when I am paying, and I just flatly say that the service was poor, as reflected by my $1 tip. I always ask them to let the server know that as a former waiter, I tend to be a generous tipper.

I go there often - it is close to my house, and everyone in my family likes mexican food. I am sure they recognize me as at least a "semi-regular". But the service has always been hit-or-miss...

We experienced a problem like this once at Rio Grande when we tried to pay. Service was fine through out the meal but when we took the ticket to the register, it was like a ghost town except for the old guy shuffling back and forth. He kept looking at us and we figured he would let somebody know that a customer needed to pay. Not so much. We waited, waited some more and then, waited even longer all the time being watched silently by the strange old guy. It was all very unnverving.

You're a better person than I am on this one. If I got service as crappy as that they'd most certainly hear about it in no uncertain terms.

Not JUST for Michael, because I bet he's not the only one who feels like I repeat a lot. Besides. I like Michael. He's all curmudgeonly. It's kind of cute.

Not sure why some people appear to be up in arms over reviews of the same place. A different server, different entree, or even a different cook for that matter, can effect your experience at a particular restaurant at any given time.

For me, I skip the rush of a new restaurant until the "new" has a chance to wear off and settle down. Unless the initial visit is that terrible, I'm willing to give any place the three (3) strike opportunity, just that I don't get in a hurry to return. Remember, we're all subject to a bad day from time to time.
